Melbourne-based vocalist & composer Tom Barton is set to release “Wherever I Will Be”, a 9-minute philosophical epic of droning synths and vocal ragas, blurred acoustic/electronic boundaries, and lyrics confronting life and death.
This song is the first from future album Reflections, which continues Barton’s unique combination of musical elements connected by his impressive vocal ability and powerful artistic vulnerability. “Wherever I Will Be” explores a beautiful and devastating conversation with a parent before their death.
The track is engineered by Isaac Barter (Alex the Astronaut, Coda Chroma, Life is Better Blonde, Xani) and features band members Nathan Liow (Keyboard/synth – Audrey Powne, Nina Ferro), Justin Olsson (Drums – Lanks, Cat Canteri, Oh Pep!) and Isaac Barter (Double bass – Liz Stringer, Ross Irwin, Jordie Lane).
lyrics
Some of the morning sun rests on my skin.
Spreading between us - like two separate things.
Threading a scene, just momentarily
bereft of projecting
Buzzing of bees disturbs the atmosphere -
tiny enough for me to notice it.
Joy of the gift of knowing weightedness:
constrained in wakefulness.
Wherever I will be
Wherever I will be
Wherever I will be
Some of the time I feel what’s happening.
Inevitably I know it all within.
Moving with change implies a different way,
provides our minds raison d'être.
Facing the end but sensing endlessness.
Fearing a loss despite connectedness.
Bending to find a way to shoulder this -
gravity won’t concede
Wherever I will be
Wherever I will be
Wherever I will be
